Installation

Sablefort Keyvault runs as a native desktop app on Linux, Windows, and macOS, with a companion browser extension for autofill. This page covers installing the app, keeping it current, and the requirements it expects.

Builds come from your organization's IT team. Most companies distribute an approved Keyvault build through their internal software portal or device management. If you do not see it there, ask IT or request access.

System requirements

PlatformMinimum versionNotes
Linux64-bit, glibc 2.31+Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora, and most modern distributions
WindowsWindows 10 (64-bit) or laterWindows 11 recommended
macOSmacOS 12 Monterey or laterApple silicon and Intel
Browser extensionCurrent Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or SafariOptional, for autofill

You also need network access to your organization's Sablefort sign-in address and roughly 300 MB of free disk space.

Install on Linux

Use the package your IT team provides for your distribution. The commands below assume the installer file is in your current directory.

Debian / Ubuntu

sudo apt install ./sablefort-keyvault.deb

Fedora / RHEL

sudo dnf install ./sablefort-keyvault.rpm

After installation, launch Keyvault from your applications menu or run sablefort from a terminal.

Install on Windows

  1. Download the SablefortKeyvaultSetup.exe installer from your company's software portal.
  2. Run the installer and follow the prompts. You may need administrator approval, which your IT team can grant.
  3. Launch Sablefort Keyvault from the Start menu.

If your organization manages devices centrally, Keyvault may already appear installed — in that case just open it and sign in.

Install on macOS

  1. Open the provided SablefortKeyvault.dmg.
  2. Drag the Sablefort Keyvault icon into your Applications folder.
  3. Open the app. On first launch, macOS may ask you to confirm you want to open it.

Install the browser extension

To autofill logins in your browser, add the Sablefort extension from your browser's extension store, then sign in with the same account. The extension talks to the desktop app so your vaults stay unlocked together. See Getting started for how autofill works.

Signing in for the first time

Open the app and enter your organization's sign-in address, your email, and your master password. If your company uses single sign-on, you will be redirected to your identity provider first — see Single sign-on.

Keeping Keyvault updated

Keyvault checks for updates automatically and installs them in the background. When an update is ready, it applies the next time you restart the app.

  • To check manually, open Settings → About and select Check for updates.
  • If your organization manages updates centrally, new builds arrive through your device management on IT's schedule.
Running an old build? If auto-update is disabled by policy, ask your IT team for the latest approved package rather than downloading it elsewhere.

Uninstalling

Removing the app does not delete your vaults — they live in your Sablefort account and re-sync when you sign in again on any device.

  • Linux: sudo apt remove sablefort-keyvault (or dnf remove).
  • Windows: uninstall from Settings → Apps.
  • macOS: move the app from Applications to the Trash.
